There is no fear in love. But perfect love casts out fear, because fear has torment. He that fears is not made perfect in love.

– 1 John 4:18

If you are a person of faith, you want trustworthy support that not only provides professional wisdom but complements and enriches your faith. I work with couples and individuals to gain healing and restoration through biblical principles mixed with psychological truths.

In theophostic counseling, we look at the inner vows you may have made early in life that now act as directives which control your responses to situations and people in your life.

What if my pastor and church friends think I am spiritually weak for seeking outside counseling?

God is the ultimate healer of damaged emotions and good mental health counseling can be a great tool to empower you to move forward when you are stuck. Psychotherapy is a treatment for the soul which is made up of free will, reasoning mind, feelings, and emotions. You are the expert of your own experiences. The psychotherapist is an expert on the process as well as relationship dynamics, belief systems, and defense mechanisms. In each session, the client shares whatever is on their mind and the therapist helps through this exploration to bring insight, provide support, understanding, and tools. Together the client and the therapist identify and treat specific symptoms with a clear plan of action that is in line with your spiritual beliefs.

Who knows better than God, our creator, how to help each of us individually find consistent and continuous peace in our lives. Christian counseling will help you to discover the purpose that He had in mind when He formed you in your mother’s womb and the Grace that He has for you to move past your pain and guilt into freedom.

All Christian counseling is based on the fact that He knows what is best for us and is waiting for us to accept His help.

Matthew 11:28-29 (NLT)
28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, Let me teach you, because I am Humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

Emotional pain is a part of the warning system God created to grab our attention and motivate us to come to Him for truth and comfort. In a sense, the pain is our friend; it first lets us know that something is wrong and then points us in the direction that we need to go in order to find freedom.

Christian counseling can assist you in finding that direction.

It’s just as surprising for some people to discover that no one or thing is causing them to feel what they are feeling. It seems natural to assume that I feel bad because of what has happened to me or because of the situation that I am in, but this is just not so.  You feel what you believe!   Our beliefs determine how we view and interpret life as it happens. And this interpretation of our situation determines what we feel in the midst of it. The good news is, if our belief changes, then our emotion will naturally change as well; even if our situation remains the same.

Christian counseling can help you to know the truth of God.  You can learn to identify what vows and judgments you made about yourself at a formative age and how those beliefs feel to you now and what the Lord may say about them.
